On January 13th Primo Franco, the third generation of his family to lead the historic Nino Franco winery, hosted a vertical tasting of Primo Franco Prosecco to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this wine at Corkbuzz Wine Studio @corkbuzz in New York’s Union Square.
It was a great turnout with a mix of distinguished trade and NY press including Tom Marseca, Ed McCarthy @edchampagne, Levi Dalton @levi_opens_wine, Anthony Giglio @winewiseguy, Ray Isle @islewine and Lawrence Marcus @lawrmarcus of @foodandwine, Cynthia Sin-Yi Cheng @cynetvin & Sister Celia Cheng @findyourcraving, Aaron Von Rock, Paul Grieco @spitpaul, Charles Scicolone @obwnknobeofwine, Jessica Sturman, Alec Steidel, Carrie Strong and Cynthia Canterbury @canterburywine as Moderator.
Along with a taste of the 2013 Primo Franco Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Primo Franco guided guests through 24 years of Prosecco including vintages 1989 in magnum, 1992, 1995 in magnum, 1997, 2000 and 2003. As most of these years were very difficult harvests, guests were pleasantly pleased by how well each of the wines showed.
Below are some of the Twitter highlights surrounding the event:
In October 2014, Primo Franco and his family hosted a similar tasting at their home in Valdobbiadene that featured Primo Franco vintages dating back to the 1980s.
